Getting rid of Sub's positional requirements would gut the spec
in PvP.
Subtlety's conceit is that it is capable of a lot of damage but
only if the positional requirements are fulfilled. Thus, they get a lot of
tools for controlling their enemies, locking them down, so they can make those
attacks happen.
Getting rid of that would make subtlety.. Buying world of
warcraft account. not subtle at all in
PvP. It would be combat but replace KS with Shadowdance, and a lot of rogues
who play the spec for PvP would hate the change.
That's why Sub has a positional requirement, and probably why
it'll stay.
I disagree. A Sub Rogue has quite a few buffs and debuffs
to keep in check, and then there's Energy pooling, before there's any chance of
actually dealing damage. Removing an outdated mechanic like this would only
make the spec stronger. It's too binary. World
of Warcraft accounts Another problem with
pos.req. is how the game deals with latency. It's not about skill at that
point, it's about the game not being able to communicate the location of your
character and your target fast enough.
Now, I'd totally concede to having abilities hit harder depending on your position. That would make sense. But it being a hit or miss simply due to positioning, that's flawed design.

Sub has no more buffs and debuffs to keep in check than
any other Rogue spec. In fact, all the Rogue specs are about juggling uptimes
of maintenance buffs, damage buffs, and cds for top damage.
What makes subtlety unique, in PvP, is the positional
requirement. You can attack from the front for less damage, it's called Hemo.
Backstab is the high-end reward for getting behind a target.
And I think you're missing the big picture. If Sub had backstab
castable from the front, but doing less damage, then you'd still have a
mandatory PvE requirement to be behind the boss, because otherwise damage would
be non competitive. Lower the gap to somewhere between scorch and fireball as
fillers, like Fire does, and you'd get non rewarding backstabs in PvP that
don't adequately reward you for staying behind the target.
It's not outdated at all, you're just looking at it in a vacuum
-- Sub has a positional requirement for top damage, yes, WoW accounts for
sale but they have other moves that don't
have positional requirements. Their entire spec identity is based around
positioning -- trivialize that, and you've got Combat-lite.
